Faraday Cage

A Faraday cage is an enclosure used to provide insulation against electric and electromagnetic interference. This type of enclosure is used to block the spread of electromagnetic waves and radio waves. It can also be used in the context of military or counter-espionage applications to avoid capturing or disrupting information signals.

The intrinsic properties of Bunkerkit panels impart them a high level of electromagnetic performance. Bunkerkit can therefore be used to build an enclosure that is protected from waves or prevents them from spreading outside.

The performance level and cost of this type of enclosure vary depending in particular on the configuration and the layout. For instance, doors, windows, technical passageways or ventilation shafts have a significant impact and have to be taken into consideration when the chamber is designed.
Similarly, electroconductive elements entering or leaving the Faraday cage must be fitted with radio filters to prevent them from becoming antennae and reducing the overall performance level of the installation.

Bunkerkit offers two solutions for installing a Faraday cage

In both cases, the Bunkerkit panels are always attached to one another using bolts.

Panels connected by joints

To reach higher levels of electromagnetic protection performance, the Bunkerkit panels are linked by joints. This solution also improves the tightness level of the enclosure or the partition and makes it easy to reconfigure the dimensions.

With Bunkerkit, it is therefore possible to achieve insulation performance levels of over 130 dB from 100 MHz to 1 GHz.

This configuration can also be combined with the burglary resistance performance feature up to class RC4.

Panels covered with a metal sheet on the inside

In this case, the electromagnetic protection performance is achieved by means of a finish on the inside of the Bunkerkit panels. A metal film is applied to the panels. This solution provides a performance level equivalent to that of a copper-reinforced enclosure.

Here Bunkerkit makes it possible to reach performance levels of 70 to 80 dB from 100 MHz to 18 GHz, which are sufficient depending on the required applications.

This configuration can also be combined with burglary resistance performance features up to class RC5 as well as class FB4 to FB7 ballistic resistance.

Both solutions offered by Bunkerkit panels to install a Faraday cage can be combined with doors and windows. To achieve high performance levels, it is advisable to limit the number of windows, which naturally have a lower level of protection (approximately 75 dB between 100 MHz and 5 GHz). In some cases, they can be replaced by insulated video surveillance cameras to limit the conduction level.
